Snapshots of 2009

With a new year upon us, I'm not one for making new year's resolutions. It's already hard trying to meet daily resolutions. I don't need to add more just for the sake of making them. That said, one thing I do like to do is take the time to look back on what I've done during the past year. So onto the highlights and lowlights! ^^

They'll probably be in somewhat of a chronological order, just because I remember them that way. It has been an amazing year, so this ends up being quite a lengthy update. More on this under the cut tag ^^

Christmas Presents

As promised, here are pictures of my little projects! ^^

I finally wrapped up their presents today.

The necklace for my mom using pearls, swarovski crystals and glass beads.

The bracelet for my sister using pearls (fake XD), seed beads, swarovski crystal, glass beads, crimp beads and some spacer beads (not sure what they're called).

At first I was going to make a necklace for my sister, but it looked funny. Too plain and it didn't keep the shape. The black part is some sort of wire that I didn't even know I had... Lolz~

Anyways, I'm satisfied ^^

Unfortunately, I don't have any Christmas presents for you guys. But I hope you enjoy your holiday season! I'm sure most of you will enjoy it! (Unlike me... haha~)

I am the unlucky one of having to work regardless of the season since I only get Christmas Day and New Year's Day off. Otherwise, it counts towards my vacation time. But the one luxury I do have is to work from home so it isn't all bad! This will probably be my last post of the year, unless something spectacularly important/interesting happens.

Strangely Popular

I was going to post about the fact that I am not just a crazy writer. Crazy, yes. Writer, yes. Just, no. I even had the proof to show that I do other things besides rant and rave like a crazy fangirl about DtB and write fanfiction for it.

Except I got distracted by things like cleaning my room, cleaning the house, working on my Christmas presents (which was what I was going to show; at a later time perhaps), listening to music, taking a shower, eating, playing PS2...

hehe~ But part of the obsession is to double check, triple check and even quadruple check my story/profile stats every day. It clearly is an obsession XD

Anyways, it's kind of funny - at least to me. But some chapters of my stories are strangely popular.

For example, one of the ones that I'm working on right now is at 21 chapters posted (ahaha!) and 2 of them are a lot higher in hit count than others. And it's not like the beginning one or end one, but just ones in the middle! Chapter 8 is around 100 when the one before it only has 74 and the one after it has 58. Chapter 17 is around 90 while the few before and after are only at 40... Weird.

I can understand if you liked it enough to read it a couple times... But like it's just so many more hits than the rest! (More than double for chapter 17.)

The funnier part is that I didn't even think that those chapters were particularly exciting... haha! I guess it's good to know people enjoy it though since there are specific chapters of stories I enjoy more than others.

BTW, I know what you're thinking. 21 chapters and still not finished?! Firstly, yes. I actually write really short chapters since I go by my 4-page rule. Basically, I try to keep my chapters a consistent length and that's around 4-pages on the computer. It's equivalent to approximately 2000 words, so those 21 chapters only equates to 42000 words. But no, it's still not done... XD [That's actually really short when other people have 7000+ word chapters.]

It's a 6-page rule for my original stories though, mostly. That one just depends on where it feels like a good cut that is a decent length. Easier to do when I chapter-ize them after I've written the whole thing... Lolz~

The other thing is that my really short pieces are surprisingly popular too. Over the last few days, I posted really short one-shots that are around 1000 words or less. Considering it's a one-shot, the first one has 85 hits in less than a week! And the second one has around 50 in 3 days... The previous one-shot I posted just over a month ago has barely over 100 hits...

It doesn't really sound like a whole lot, but this is a pretty small fandom. I mean, there's not even 200 stories for the series as compared to say Naruto which has like 200000+ stories.

Oh well. I'm just pleased to know that people enjoy it and I shall continue to keep writing for it until I get bored of it! haha~

And I shall post pictures of my Christmas presents (handmade jewelry; haven't done it in a while ^^) when I get some decent pictures of them. Always comes out so blurry... Boo~

Other than that, I finally did the math on all my writing - at least the ones that I can get word counts on without doing too much work and are typed up on the computer. Out of everything I've written be it short stories, stories or fanfiction, the word count for 7 years is over a million! That's pretty darn crazy... And out of all that, what I have to show for it (as in completed work) is 9 fanfiction pieces, 8 short stories and 7 stories.

Wow~ I amaze myself sometimes.

Oh well. It's off to bed I go! XD Gotta wake up early for church tomorrow~

Being a Woman

I know there's all this hype about being proud of being a woman. But even so, there are times when it is just downright frustrating!

I'm alone in the lab cuz the other "lab" guy has long been kicked out of the lab. Ahaha~ Because I complained about him to the uppers and was like, "He's totally useless! He just hovers around and bothers me!" So now he's back in the office - not that he's here now anyways. He's back home (in Peru) visiting family and friends. All the grad students are off and not in this week.

There's only a handful of labs on my floor of this block and so far people are either busy or I couldn't find anyone when I looked...

So what's my problem?

The problem is that I'm a tiny girl whose full strength is probably like 10% strength for a man! GRR!!!

I'm working on a project that needs to be finished by the end of the week. Not really a problem, if everything worked out!!

Yesterday, I went to buy the supplies we needed. One of the things was this solvent cement stuff... BUT NOW I CAN'T OPEN THE BOTTLE!! *cries*

The old one was dried up and crusty, so I had to get a replacement bottle. Now that I have it, I can't get it open! And I can't find anyone to help me open it!! >_< I tried so hard (see 10% statement above) and I still can't get it to budge!

It's driving me crazy! I mean, I need it for like 5 minutes, but can't get it open and it's ending up taking me an hour (or more)!

Waaah~ Where are people when you ne~ed them?!

edit: Finally got someone to help me open it! He had to use those plumber wrenches or whatever... Go figure >_> And here I'm trying to use "brute" strength... Ah well! My prep work is done! ^__^

We'll just have to try again.

Disheartened by the knowledge that we couldn't find it, I looked for a place to rest. I took a rest on something akin to a mix between a roll-away bed and a hammock. With my feet firmly planted on the ground, I pushed against it, creating a rocking motion.

I was lost in my own thoughts when I suddenly stopped. I could sense the proximity of someone close by me.

I turned to look and found a piercing blue-grey gaze matching mine. He had settled behind me, laying out on his side. His legs were resting behind me. He didn't smile and neither did I. Even so, something about his demeanor... The sense of relaxation settled within me. We didn't speak and I continued with my rocking.

When we heard him coming around to give us new directions, he sat up next to me. We waited for the new assignments.

Feeling weary, I rested my head against his shoulder. He didn't say anything.

As I heard the new groups we had been given, I was disappointed to learn that we wouldn't be together. We had to go our separate ways.

As I was going to my new station, two thoughts settled in my mind. One, he was younger than me - an impression I had received, but didn't dwell upon. And secondly, will I ever see him again?
